Another firm recruiting at the moment is Daisy, the telecoms group.  They have 80 new jobs on offer and are having a recruitment evening to fill these at its call centre.  The Daisy group is making its contact centre at Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, in Nelson, a 24 hour operation.

It’s such a big event and since its launch in 1998, some of the best artists in the world have been here.  The famous American outfit Sugar Ray and the Blue Tones was top of the bill at the Mechanics on one of the days.

The history of the blues is fascinating with all the blues men coming from poverty.  Most of them learned the guitar on homemade string affairs.  Robert Johnson was the man who started it being popular.  Then there was lead belly, Little Walter but the list is too long to mention them all.  We mustn’t forget Muddy Waters who was helped by Big Bill Bronzy to get a toe hold on the scene and in later years there was Satchmo who blew a mean trumpet.

They had venues all across the town in pubs, cafes and the Mechanics.  The Blues Brothers belted out some mean tunes in the town centre.  Hapton teen singer, Nicole Talmer sung to the crowds in Charter Walk.  The line-up for the main stage on Friday was none other than Jimmie Vaughan.  He is one of the biggest blues names in the world and has played all the big gigs in America along with BB King and Eric Clapton.

The Mechanics is such a good place to see brilliant acts from tribute bands to the real thing.  They have comedians, plays and a whole host of other talents on offer.   Why not check it out?

People are naive to the dangers and don’t realise this age group is where it is most common.  Too many people over 40 think their eyes are fine and don’t bother with check-ups.  This means thousands of drivers are on our roads and don’t know they have it.  It is a risk for everyone concerned.

The test for glaucoma is really simple and if treated early people can carry on driving for many years.  This way they will avoid the impact of losing their licence. If it is found early, with proper treatment (eye drops) a patient could expect to retain good sight for an extra 10 years or more.

The drivers who get it in both eyes must report it to the DVLA.  They will have to undergo a test to see if they can still drive.  When both eyes are affected the

danger comes in driving, when the damaged areas in both eyes overlap.  Instead of getting normal vision the brain sees something else.  This gives a wrong picture and events may be missed.  For example a child could be crossing the road and you wouldn’t even see it.

The England job can make fools out of the best of men.  The fact is they haven’t got the players.  England’s players are good but not world class, although Hodgson has a knack of getting the best out of players.

Switzerland hadn’t qualified for anything major in 30yrs and he led them to the finals of the 1994 World Cup, Euro 96 as well as third place in the Fifa rankings.  It has been said that he has no charisma, well Alf Ramsey hadn’t any but he won the world cup with England.

Hodgson is going to speak with Capello to pick his brains.  Harry Redknapp was the man we all thought would get the job.  His record is A1,

he has charisma and all players respect him.

Ronnie O’Sullivan won his 4^th world title he beat Ali Carter 18-11. It was the final of the world championship in Sheffield.

The rocket used to practice all the time.  As a child he made a century break at 10 yrs old .  He uses his skill and experience, which is something we, at Keylift , admire.  We make sure our staff is skilled, experienced and are fully qualified to deliver our forklift truck courses.

The rocket's son was at the game and he has started practising all ready.  His father said he didn’t want to build him up as he was only 4.  The main thing Ronnie wants for his child is to be happy.  He would like him to pursue outdoor sports. “I really want jnr to be happy and enjoy himself.  In my dream world I would love to see him on a golf course or playing tennis.

The new snooker season will start without the champion O’Sulliva

n.  He is taking a six month break; he is in a contract wrangle with world snooker.  He is accusing them of blackmail in making him play in small events.  Chances are he won’t be back in 6 months unless there are changes.  “I want to see changes and not to keep getting fined for missing them; they have to sort it out.

O’ Sullivan won £250,000 as the first prize cheque.  At points in the past 13 months Ronnie has been down and out.  That led him to working with renowned mind guru Dr Steve Peters and in front of the wild crowd the comeback was completed in style.

The forklift truck training team at Keylift saw an article about a new scheme to get pensioners helping the youth of today.  Research has found that about 91% of British pensioners believe they could answer questions younger people struggle with.

More than 3 quarters of people say Britain would be in a better state if older people were listened to more often.  From research it was found that large quantities of youngsters do not have contact with anyone over 65 years old.  The older generation are keen to pass on tips to youngsters who may be going through what they have experienced when young.

The charity who is responsible for the scheme worked with dozens of pensioners across the UK to compile a list of useful tips on how to deal with life’s problems from losing a loved one to having a happy marriage.  After all they have been through it all and come out the other end.  Surely they would be able to teach us a thing or two.

It looks like a good idea with both the elderly and the young getting something from this experience.

This will boost the

confidence of many over 65’s who believe that people are less likely to listen or respect their opinions at their age.

Although this does not seem to be the case, many youngsters would welcome the advice from someone older.  They have knowledge on difficult life situations such as managing money through difficult times.  I think we can all relate to this.  The elderly are recognised as being some of the happiest in the country which is something we could all learn from.

It’s all free and given with a good heart, which sounds good to us.

There is a saying, ‘you can’t put an old head on young shoulders’ which is certainly true.

But this is a start!

Here at Keylift we pride ourselves on being organised and professional.  After a day of forklift truck training we all go into the office to hand in paperwork and to book in any additional training.  We try to make a point of not talking politics as it’s a personal opinion.

We did, however, agree that the local elections have not been great.  Labour has taken a huge 82 seats with the Tory’s losing 400 seats and a third of the power.

Cameron came under fire with talk of a revolt. Turnout slumped to its lowest level for twelve years with 32% of the 25 million not bothering to vote.  The heavy rain didn’t help floating voters (pardon the pun) but even so 32% is bad.

In Edinburgh, The Independent who campaigned dressed as a giant penguin got more votes than the Lib Dems.  There’s talk about Tony Caldeira who ran for Mayor of Liverpool for the Conservatives.  He was beaten into 7^th place by a man dressed as a polar bear.

The Tory toff Boris Johnson held on as Mayor of London.  The blond buffoon just beat his Labour rival.  He said he would not challenge Cameron for the leadership.

Labour are back in

power in Burnley, fifteen seats were up for grabs in all 15 wards. Labour regained control from the Lib Dems.  The Lib Dems had been in charge for six years and this trend was repeated through the country.  Labour said that they now have a huge task.  They will fight for our town against large cuts in Government spending.

I think people have lost faith in the government with lots of broken promises.  Times are hard and we all just want to see things picking up. Firms are closing and people are losing their jobs and security.

Keylift forklift truck training is happy to hear that the Burnley Council are purchasing a number of empty houses in Burnley.  The houses will be done up and will be bought by a first time buyer. It follows the news that the council has received a second boost from the government.  It is through the second stage of the funding bid to the home and communities agency.  The fund has 50 million pound to help bring large areas of empty homes back into use. Burnley has been invited to take part in the formal bidding.  If they succeed the council will receive funding for a two year programme.  This will bring 25 or more empty houses back into use.

A new development with 280 luxury homes has moved a step nearer also.  What used to be William Blyth Chemical Works in Hapton is set to be sold off to create a leafy estate.  It’s a 38 acre estate owned by Yule Catto. It’s undergone a £2million programme in the past 6 months by the owners.  There will be open space and country parks for the use of the people in Hapton and for the wider c

ommunity. The prime plot runs along the Leeds and Liverpool canal and has been placed on the market. It provides easy access to local towns and the Greater Manchester area.  There is a railway station that runs every hour to Preston. The schools will have to be looked at with a project this size, people are already having trouble getting their kids in the schools.  It’s one of the best in the country. The capacity for the housing project is 14.3 acres.  This is where up to 280 high quality houses can be built.  It will be within a lovely green setting by the historic canal. Hopefully this will create work and provide good homes for local people.

Landlords have blamed a number of reasons for the closures, from the smoking ban, to the economy. It has also been said the decline reflected a change in society. The areas worst hit are those that had a lot of heavy industry in the past.  Places like Lancashire, where there were lots of cotton mills, had a pub on every corner, and men would come out of the mills and factories and into the pubs. Places like Nelson and Barnoldswick have seen a huge decline. It is sad, but it is a sign of the times.

However not all pubs are struggling, as new owners of the Crooked Bill

et, Worsthorne, Alison Leigh and Paul Miller have found.

Miss Leigh said that they have found it great over the four weeks they have had the place. They have a good selection of real ales, including some from the Worsthorne Brewery, which are very popular. Miss Leigh said being a free house was a major advantage. She said she had changed one of their lager suppliers three times in a month to get better deals.
